MCC Hopes to Break Ground On Expansion In January

The Board of Directors at the Muslim Community Center is still waiting for the completion of the Montgomery County Permitting process to start the new building project.

 


Ten out of eleven agencies have approved and the last remaining agency review is expected to be completed within a week. They are ready to request bids from the builders and start the  construction as soon as possible." We are hoping to have a groundbreaking event in January, in sha Allah'" said Tamseel Butt, MCC's President.

MCC is raising money to build a bigger prayer area for sisters, wudu facilities, accessible bathrooms compliant with standards set by the Americans With Disabilities Act, and additional classrooms for Sunday school and Quran classes. The estimated cost for the expansion is $1million of which about $650,000 has already been raised.

In other news from MCC, the Main Hall has been repainted and the damaged area at the entrance to the main hall has been re-paved in long lasting stone. Sturdy access handrails have also been installed at the entrance.

MCC's storm water drainage system was inspected by the County and the administration was asked to de-silt the Pond. To comply with County requirements, the Pond was dug out and relined and is now up to county standards.

MCC's Funeral committee met with the managers of various cemeteries in the area to review cost of burial lots and services. As a result, Fort Lincoln cemetery in Brentwood, MD has agreed to reduce cost of burial services from $2,615 to $2,050. Reduced prices are effective until August 2013, and can be prepaid. The domestic violence awareness program, run under the grant by the MCC clinic, was introduced to the community on December 7,  2012.
