On a sunny Saturday, January 5th, 2013, students from all over the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan area convened at the Muslim Community Center (MCC) in Silver Spring, Maryland to learn from Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda of Al-Qalam and Bayyinah Institutes in Dallas, TX.

Sister Najma Khan of the MCC's women's committee was working the registration table as the line wove around the entrance and outside the building. There were more than 300 students in attendance; all the tables and chairs were full for the 5 hour class. The topic, "Surah Yaseen, a Literary Analysis" was close to many hearts. The instructor, ANJ as he is affectionately known, gave the youth khatirah at the Muslim Community Center on Friday, January 4 on “Faith and the Community” bringing the audience to tears with his explanation of the life of Salman al Farsi. Surah Yaseen is so comprehensive and coherent that it is a perfect example of the miracle of the Qur'an. It is so universally loved, admired, revered, and respected by Muslims. From the most renowned scholar to the average Muslim who may not be able to recite with proper tajweed, all revere and love this surah. The students learned that Surah Yaseen was a Makkan surah. The Makkan surahs: Surah Faatir, Yaseen, and Saba are a complete curriculum of iman (faith): tawhid (the Oneness of Allah), risalah (Messengership of Muhammad salAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and the reality of the Akhirah. As he explained the language of the Surah Yaseen, verse by verse, Shaykh Abdul Nasir told the students that "when Allah takes an oath, Allah is leveraging the credibility of what we already know to another credibility." The composite qualities of Aziz and Rahman (confident + merciful) were used for Allah, Al-Nabi, and Al-Quran. "Allah uses the credibility of the Qur’an to establish the credibility of the Prophet (salAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam)." He explored the exegesis with relevant everyday examples, relating modern life to the times of Aasia (may Allah's mercy and blessings be on her) and the messengers that were spoken about in Surah Yaseen. "This was such an amazing and beneficial course. The deep spiritual connections and analogies were mind blowing. Could not have spent Saturday doing anything better. Jazakumullahu Khairan for bringing this course to MCC," Sarah K. wrote on the Facebook event page for this event. The only criticism echoed through the attendees was that since the event was advertised as a family event, quality babysitting services and a on-site lunch option would have made it easier for the attendees to concentrate solely on the class. Shaykh Abdul Nasir will be teaching Accepted Supplications, a powerful weekend seminar that educates students on the etiquette of making dua along with the beauty of their meanings at the Islamic Society of Baltimore over the weekend of February 8th, 2013.
