In an email to supporters, the Tarbiyah Academy board announced the formation of three committees: curriculum development, human resources, and fundraising. They also said that due to a need for start-up capital, the Fall 2013 opening will likely be delayed till Fall 2014.
In addition, the board said it sent community members Shabana Ahmed and Mona Kamal to an International Baccalaureate (‘IB’) curriculum orientation session; schools which follow the highly praised IB curriculum are required to send their teaching staff to IB training sessions.
“They came back energized with fresh ideas and insights, and have contributed tremendously to the further enrichment of our curriculum,” said the email update from the Tarbiyah board.
In addition to curriculum development, the board and volunteers are also working to develop student application packets, teacher qualifications, training sessions, and policies for governing and running the school.
Tarbiyah Academy needs $700,000 in start-up capital, after which the board says the school should be self-sustaining.
