With the summer in full swing, the Dar-us-Salaam community in College Park, Maryland  is inviting area Muslims to relax and reconnect for a few hours on the Potomac River, and support a great cause at the same time.

The “Home of the Heart” campaign is Dar-us-Salaam's effort to raise $10 million needed to acquire and develop a new home campus in Howard County, Maryland. The campus will be home to their primary project, the preK-12th grade Al-Huda School. All ticket sales – $99 before June 9 and $129 afterwards – go towards the Home of the Heart campaign.

The Potomac river cruise is set for Sunday, June 23, 2013 and will allow guests to enjoy a few hours of relaxation with family and friends, get up-close views of the iconic waterway and some of Washington DC’s most historic sights. While taking in the view and the breeze from the top deck, guests will enjoy a grand buffet featuring the finest halal cuisine east of the Potomac River.

The cruise liner – the Spirit of Washington – was the venue for two other Dar-us-Salaam events in previous years.

“People really enjoyed themselves on those cruises, its something different and we're able to provide guests with a peaceful, relaxing getaway in an Islamic atmosphere,” said Fadlullah Firman, the Home of the Heart campaign manager. There will not be any fundraising on the cruise and guests will be free to spend time on the deck taking in the views and relaxing, he added.

The cruise will pass by the following historical sights: Washington Monument; General’s Row waterfront properties; Fort Lesley J. McNair; US Naval Research Lab; Woodrow Wilson Bridge; Jones Point Lighthouse; Admiral’s Row colonial homes; Torpedo Factory; Old Town Alexandria; and Reagan National Airport.
