The Prince George's Muslim Association held its "20 Years of Community Service" banquet at the Greenbelt Martin's East on March 23, 2014.

The banquet and fundraiser attracted several hundred area Muslims including leaders from surrounding communities like the Islamic Society of the Washington Area and Imam Faizul Khan.


Headlined by keynote speakers Imam Siraj Wahaj and Dr. Altaf Hussain who helped raise about $200,000, the community celebrated its last two decades and spoke about the need to continue forward with more services and expansion.


Local elected officials attended and presented the community with a proclamation, reproduced below:

A Proclamation: Whereas, started in 1994, the Prince George's Muslim Association is a non-profit Islamic religious organization which serves the needs of thousands of families in Prince George's County and the greater Washington-Metropolitan area and


Whereas, the Prince George's Muslim Association  is a place of worship for the daily prayer, lectures, and educational programs for youth and adults alike, and


Whereas, for more than 20 years, the Prince George's Muslim Association has been  a growing part of the community offering increased services to the Muslim and non-Muslim community and


Whereas, the Prince George's Muslim Association  is committed to sharing the message of Islam through sincere action by developing a model Islamic community based upon and adhering to the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah of their Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and


Whereas, the Prince George's Muslim Association's goal is to provide the opportunity for anyone, who is interested, in learning about the religion of Islam, to be able to pray and participate in the community activities offered at the center, and


Whereas, the Prince George's County Council is pleased to have this opportunity to participate in this most important event.


NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Proclaimed by the Prince George's County Council that the Prince George's Muslim Association is congratulated on celebrating its “20th Anniversary,” and wished continued success in the future.
