ADAMS Greater Gainesville is set to purchase a 15 acre property in Bristow, VA for a masjid and Islamic Community center. A potluck iftar was held on July 19th, 2014 at the Wyndham Hotel at 10800 Vandor Lane in Manassas, VA.

The community raised $80,000 at the iftar, bringing them closer to their goal. ADAMS Imam Muhammad Magid and Farooq Syed were the keynote speakers.

Currently Jummah is prayed at the same hotel, and the community holds taraweeh at the Bristow Montessori School.

Enthusiastically trying to meet its goals, in June the organizing committee held an event with nasheed artists Junaid Jamshed and Native Deen at the George Mason University campus to raise funds for the project.

In April 2014, the Islamic Center filed the application for Special Use Permit (SUP) with the Prince Williams County. On an average, the application takes 6 to 9 months to process. Once the county approves the SUP application, ADAMS Greater Gainesville will buy the land for the Islamic Center.

“The process of preparing the application was very long and tedious. It involves land use attorneys, civil engineers, land study firm and architect. The application includes title search, water flow determination, archeological studies, military and civil war studies, endangered species studies, civil engineering drawings, traffic impact analysis and preliminary architectural design,” say the committee members.

So far the ADAMS GG has paid approximately $ 50,000 to file the SUP, but it may cost more than $150,000 to complete whole SUP process. During SUP process, county will ask to fulfill more requirements and a public hearing will take place. The county will assess if building a religious institution at that location will impact the larger community adversely. At the hearing, the county will also take into account how many Muslims live in that community who will benefit from the center. Organizers hope the Muslim community in Greater Gainsville will attend the hearing to show their support of the project.

ADAMS Greater Gainesville held its first Eid salah on August 8, 2013, at the Piedmont Country Club,14675 Piedmont Vista Drive, Haymarket, VA.

ADAMS GG is a part of ADAMS, follows guidelines for ADAMS branches and is governed by the rules and policies of ADAMS. It will serve Muslims living in Gainesville, Haymarket, Bristow, Manassas, and Warrenton.
