With the promise of a story that would provide plenty of cliff hangers, a dinner with all the trimmings, and the opportunity to help a noble cause, Muslims from around the Washington-Baltimore metro area came out for Dar-us-Salaam's annual dinner,

this year called "Perseverance: Reaching New Heights Together" and held on December 14, 2014.


Farouq Alzouman, a Saudi mountaineer who reached the top of Mount Everest and became the first person to give the athan and hold the Qur'an from the highest point on Earth, recounted his climb -- complete with many photos -- and the lessons he learned to a gasping audience. Dr. Altaf Husain helped the community raise over $200,000 to continue the work of Dar-us-Salaam, which marked its 20th anniversary this academic year.
