MoCo Muslims Begin Senior Program

There is good news for Muslim seniors in the Gaithersburg-Germantown area. The Montgomery County Muslim Foundation started a weekly Senior Program on August 25, 2015.


All programs are scheduled on Wednesdays, from 11 a.m to 1:00 pm.

In this series, the speakers from within local seniors who will share exciting stories, and important information on a variety of life's issues. According to the foundation, guest speakers will also be invited to contribute to sessions.


“Our Senior Program is a family affair. We invite one and all to join us, get into the conversation, start new friendships, relax and have some fun. Enjoy our fresh fruit and refreshments,” says Mona Negm, formerly of the Muslim Community Center Seniors Program.


From Comedy Night to astronomy, seniors will share their areas of interest.


In other senior news, the County Executive Isieh Leggett Senior Summit for Montgomery County will be held on December, 3rd, 2015. It is a county wide conference on aging held once every three years. It brings together aging experts, community leaders, the business and research community, policy makers, and civic groups. Participants will explore how to make Montgomery County an attractive place offering myriad of opportunities, resources, and options for it's residents. “A place for a lifetime.”


“To ensure community representation, community forums with 20 participants age 50 and over, will be conducted throughout the county. They are designed to gather information and recommendations from members of the community to help shape and plan the summit,” shares Negm who is avialable to conduct these sessions at MoCo masajid.


In preparation for the County Executive Senior Summit for Montgomery County, on September 16, 2015, MCMF will hold the County Executive Senior Summit Community Forum. The Islamic Society of the Washington Area (ISWA) Senior Connection will be also be holding a Senior Summit preparation session. Persons 50 years and over are encouraged to participate. This is a great opportunity to influence future Montgomery County Aging policy and funding.


The meeting will be held at ISWA on September, 13, 2015 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at  2701 Briggs Chaney Rd, Silver Spring, 20905 and will be led by Imam Faizul Khan and Barbara Khadar.
