Assalaamu'alykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

With the 2012 Presidential election campaigns in full swing, agenda-driven organizations are investing millions of dollars in getting their messages out.

Whether its on television, online, or in print, these organizations know that defining the issues on their terms, using their own language, is critical to their objectives and agenda.

Do we have an agenda? Does the Muslim community in America, and more specifically in the nation's capital, have something to say about issues facing America, the world, or society? Does the Muslim community have a point of view to offer regarding gay marriage, funding education through slots and gambling, or civil rights?

Given that we have a duty to share the message of Islam with our neighbors, do we have anything to say about ourselves --- our values, principles, and characteristics?

If the answer to all of the above questions is yes, then the next question is: what are we prepared to invest in our own voice?

With Allah's permission and blessing, over the last 10 years the Muslim Link newspaper has taken its place as a steady pillar supporting the Muslim community in the greater Washington and Baltimore metropolitan region. Consistent, relevant, and timely, the Muslim Link newspaper is about you and for you.

And it needs you.

Advertising revenue supports only about half of our expenses, and as a non-profit Islamic project, we depend on donors like you to keep the presses running.

Our annual fundraising dinner is at 5pm on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at our usual location at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland. This year's event is titled “Uncovered: Finding the Stories That Matter”. Keeping with our tradition of bringing the most courageous activists and journalists to address our supporters, this year we will be joined by New York Times best selling author, whistle-blower and former “Economic Hitman” John Perkins.

As Chief Economist at a major international consulting firm, John Perkins advised players like the World Bank, IMF, and Fortune 500 corporations, often working directly with heads of state. His Confessions of an Economic Hit Man (70 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list) is a startling exposé of international corruption. His presentation promises to be an eye-opener for all concerned with global injustice and how to end financial oppression.

Please join us for our once-in-a-year gathering for our readers and supporters. If we don't invest in our own voice, who will?
To purchase tickets, visit our website at or call our office at 301-982-1020.

The Prophet Muhammad Salallahu 'alyhi wa sallam told us never to belittle our sincere charity, so if you are in a position to make only a small donation, do it. Every dollar counts because our voice matters. We really want you to be at our April 14 dinner in person, but if you can only make it “in spirit”, then please make an online donation right now. Keep us in your prayers. JazakAllahu khayran !  May Allah accept all of our efforts and purify our intentions.
