There are about 80 different varieties of crepes at Crepes A-Go-Go in Gaithersburg, Maryland. On left, two of the “savory” options with vegetables and cheese fillings, and on the right, crepes for the sweet tooth. The relaxed atmosphere at Crepes A-Go-Go makes it a great Sunday brunch spot for the family.
This month TML dined at Crepes a Go Go in the Market Square of Kentlands, Gaithersburg. The area is very quaint in the setting of a small village of brick buildings, with plenty of free parking throughout. Crepes a Go Go sits beside the courtyard.
The venue is simple, with tables to seat up to about 30 people, and ample infant seats to bring the whole family. As soon as you enter Crepes a Go Go you see the menu boards hung above the ordering counter displaying the 75+ different crepe options of either Savory or Sweet variety to choose from, and a full selection of coffee drinks, juices and milk.
Crepes are the famous French thin, delicate pancakes, most often made from wheat. They are usually rolled and filled with anything from chocolate to spinach.
Not being familiar with the portions we ordered a savory and sweet option each in planning our meal followed up with a treat. Well, let me tell you, we could have shared only 2 or 3 and still been well fed, as we had leftovers. The variety of crepes ranges from a plain crepe, a crepe with only butter to the legendary “sweetest” crepe on their menu called “King Samm” made of Almond powder, banana, coconut, Nutella chocolate spread and whipped cream. So the prices range respectively from $3 to $9.95 each.
For our savory selections we first chose a “build your own” crepe of cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and roasted turkey, and the “Feta” crepe including spinach, black olives, tomatoes, artichoke hearts. Both of these had very fresh ingredients, bright in both color and flavor. However, much to our surprise the crepes also filled our 10” dinner plates, a well-sized portion alone, and we had two more of the sweet ones waiting! These crepes were absolutely delicious.
For dessert the sweet crepes we had started with a “build your own” ricotta cheese with honey, and the banana and berries with chocolate crepe too. The ricotta cheese blended perfectly with the honey, and the tender, fluffy crepe. The berries and chocolate crepe was loaded with all fresh berries, large blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, sliced strawberries and bananas between the layers of crepe with melted chocolate inside and out. This was an amazing meal. All the ingredients fresh, the flavors well blended, the prices quite reasonable, the venue was clean and easily accessible.
The owner of Crepes a Go Go is owned and managed by Muslims, so despite seeing that there is ham on the menu, I was assured that they keep strict separation of ingredients so that there is no cross contamination, so whether you choose the chicken or turkey meats, or to choose meatless varieties, there is no need to be concerned with that. And the other great bonus to the menu selection at Crepes a Go Go is the variety of Gelato ice cream, hand dipped to your liking.
Crepe a Go Go is open 7 days a week, as late as 11pm on weekends, and even 8pm on Sundays, TML suggests you pay a visit and see for yourself why you want to make this a regular stop on your dining adventures.
