Even in the affluent communities of Montgomery County, hunger is an issue on the rise. Montgomery County Muslim Foundation (MCMF) aims to help familes facing hunger.
MCMF, under the leadership of board member Amir Khwaja, collaborated with Manna Foods and Giant Stores. The result was a food drive on Saturday, April 28 and Sunday April 29, 2018.
About 60 volunteers from diverse backgrounds (Pakistani, African American, Indian, Latino, and Arabs) participated in the food drive at 13 Giant Stores. They collected about 9000 pounds of non-perishable food items. The food items were subsequently donated to Manna Food Center in the pursuit to fight hunger in the county .
On May 12 , 2018 MCMF organized its Annual Community Cookout at the Black Hill Regional Park. The event was attended by the volunteers and their families, MCMF Board Members , MCMF Senior Group Members etc. This gathering was designed to thank and appreciate volunteers whose efforts were essential to MCMF work throughout the year. Volunteers were awarded Certificates of Appreciation for their efforts in helping families across Montgomery County. County Executive Ike Leggett attended the event and commended the MCMF for its charitable work and interfaith activities that make the county a better place to call home. Public officials including Roger Berliner, George Leventhal, Nancy Floreen, Marc Elrich, Chuck Shot, Bruce Adam and Rev. Cassey Kaseman attended the event and appreciated the community service work of MCMF. In addition to the above county officials the event was also attended by candidates for various elected offices in the forthcoming election.
Council Member Roger Berliner also awarded a certificate of appreciation to MCMF for promoting Cultural Diversity and improving the lives of Communities in Montgomery County.
Guests were served freshly cooked sumptuous Pakistani dishes. More than 200 people attended the event.
