Saturday, September 15, 2018 is just around the corner, and thousands of members in the DMV Muslim community are excitedly awaiting the annual Muslim Family Day at Six Flags America in the Baltimore/Washington DC.

Six Flags Muslim Family Day is an exclusively Muslim event run by the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), aimed at bringing the Muslim community together. The entire park is reserved for the event and Six Flags’ parks across the nation are participating on different dates.

Families coming to the event can look forward to a various selection of halal food sold by halal restaurants and a bazaar with vendors selling their products and introducing their initiatives. Nasheeds will be playing all day long on the speaker system and the adhan will be heard throughout the park at the time of Duhr and Asr, after which congregational prayer will be held. All rides, with the exception of the water parks will be open to attendees.

Arif Mannan, President of ICNA’s DMV chapter has been volunteering with the organization for over 20 years. To keep things new and exciting, they have added new food vendors and more variety in the food this year, as well as some new rides.

One of ICNA’s missions, according to Mannan, is to make this a fun environment for all our DMV area Muslims. ICNA works to accommodate those who cannot attend the event because of financial reasons by getting them sponsorships through the community and their connections. Last year, with the grace of Allah and community sponsorship, about 75 tickets were given to families in need in the DMV.

Mannan has estimated that about 5,500 people came last year. He believes pre-sale tickets are on track for this year’s event, with 60% of attendees buying online prior to the event, and 40% buying at the door.
